KEY INGREDIENTS:
Turmeric
Ayurveda calls turmeric the "Golden Goddess". Turmeric is one of the most recommended herbs amongst Ayurvedic practitioners, herbalists & doctors for supporting digestive health. It is considered tridoshic, meaning that it is good for all doshas. It aids in indigestion, reduces excess heat that can accumulate in the digestive tract (which can lead to heartburn, GERD and diarrhea) & also clears ama or toxins in the digestive system. Turmeric also works in the rakta or blood channel as a circulatory stimulant as well as a blood tonic because it supports the building of red blood cells. The healing substance found in turmeric is called curcumin. Curcumin imparts the golden yellow color & also provides the medicinal action of turmeric. Turmeric can help heal the inner body & it also gives skin a radiant, healthy glow. To learn more about the many benefits of turmeric, read our blog post, .
Cinnamon
Considered one of the 'Three Aromatics' in Ayurveda, cinnamon helps increase circulation throughout the body, so if you suffer from cold fingers & toes, cinnamon is your ally! It also is a dipana, which means it is a digestive herb, aiding in assimilation & absorption of nutrients. Cinnamon has a warming quality & is perfect to use in the fall, winter & spring. It is considered a demulcent in herbalism since it retains moisture in the body; however, it also works as an expectorant, expelling excess mucus & congestion from colds & flus. We love the sweet, aromatic flavor cinnamon imparts in our Golden Milk.
Ashwagandha
Sanskrit for “the smell of a horse”, ashwagandha is known to give one “the power of horse” thanks to its rejuvenating effects on the body & mind. It is considered an adaptogen because it helps the body & mind withstand stress & adapts to the needs of the individual. Ashwagandha is one of the most preeminent herbs in the Ayurvedic apothecary thanks to its capacity to simultaneously energize & calm. It also supports healthy male & female reproductive systems. Other benefits of this powerful herb include bringing warmth to the body, maintaining healthy joints, optimal functioning of the adrenal glands & thyroid as well as promoting quality sleep patterns.
Shatavari
Shatavari may very well be the “Queen of Ayurvedic Herbs” and she is the more cooling, feminine counterpart to ashwagandha. Shatavari literally means “one hundred roots” but it also translates to “the woman with one hundred husbands”. Kind of a crazy concept, but there is a reason for this. Shatavari has special benefits for the female reproductive system, strengthening it to such a high degree that one may ideally be able to have a hundred husbands, if she chose to! It is an adaptogen, meaning it rejuvenates the body & mind, restoring balance to both the nervous & immune systems. Shatavari has strength, power, wisdom & endless love to share with all she meets. Shatavari is anti-inflammatory, thanks to its cooling properties & also is a demulcent, bringing moisture into the skin & body.
